About me

Meet EMMa (And annie)

My sophomore year of college, I was lucky enough to rescue the sweetest orange girl, AKA Annie! She is not only the most perfect animal to ever walk this earth, but she is also my roommate and best friend. How lucky am I?

Meet Emma’s (kind of) Oracas!

Meet Blackberry, Mystic and Joy! I have loved orcas since I was young; my favorite movie as a child was Blackfish. At one point, I watched it every night before bed for well over a year. My passion for activism started with learning about Orcas in captivity. Being able to adopt, or sponsor, an orca (more like orcas now) has been a full circle experience. By adopting one of these Southern Resident Community killer whales, I am able to contribute to orca education and research. Joy was my first adoption, then she had a son (Mystic), and of course, I had no choice but to adopt her son as well.

Blackberry is from a different pod. It was interesting because my dad sent me an article about the orca salmon hat trend making a comeback after 37 years, since he knows I love orcas. I recognized the pod and saw that the famous and stylish Blackberry was available for adoption. It is quite interesting to read about orca trends; some orcas are as smart as 16-year-old humans, which is slightly horrifying. Like teenagers, orcas have fads too! Anyways, their social behavior is super interesting, so I will attach the article if you are curious and want to learn more.

Also this is where I adopted these guys from! It is a very cool organization, orcas are fascinating animals, I recommend checking it out!

My Values

I believe my work should reflect my values, whether through word choice or themes throughout my pieces. I want to call attention to what matters to me. It might not always be straightforward, but I believe satire can be just as powerful at communicating important messages. I strive to make my work interesting and engaging while honoring my core beliefs. Not everything I write is my own personal experience; sometimes I draw ideas from others’ experiences, with their permission, of course, to create a wide range of perspectives and a variety of experiences. My core beliefs rest on some of these pillars.

  • Kindness and compassion for others and oneself.

  • Honesty, even when it is hard or feels vulnerable.

  • Remaining curious and exploring concepts in ways that take you out of your comfort zone.

  • Integrity and accountability.

  • Courage to communicate things that are important to you.
